Headquartered at Mt. Carmel, the Colorado Veterans Business Outreach Center also has a satellite office at Catalyst Campus for Technology and Innovation. The Colorado VBOC provides counseling, training, technical skill development, comprehensive business assessments, and mentoring services to aspiring and existing business owners who are Active Duty, veterans, members of the National Guard or Reserve, military spouses, and family members. According to the SBA, Colorado has 48,803 veteran-owned small businesses that provide $23 billion to the state economy and employ over 96,000 people.

OUR PROGRAMS

The Colorado Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) at Mt Carmel offers resources to veterans, service members, and military spouses who are interested in starting or growing a small business.

Transition Assistance

VBOCs work closely with SBA district offices and Transition Service Managers at military installations to conduct  Boots to Business classes for service members and military spouses. VBOCs also help conduct B2B Reboot classes off installations for veterans of all eras, National Guard and Reserve members, and military spouses.

Business Workshops

VBOCs conduct entrepreneurial development workshops dealing specifically with the major issues of self-employment. An important segment of these workshops covers the usage of the Internet as a tool for developing and expanding businesses. Each client is afforded the opportunity to work directly with a business counselor.

Business Plan Preparation

VBOCs assist clients in developing and maintaining a five-year business plan. The business plan includes such elements as the legal form of the business, equipment requirements and cost, organizational structure, a strategic plan, market analysis, and a financial plan. Financial plans include financial projections, budget projections, and funding requirements.

Entrepreneurial Training and Counseling

VBOCs, working with other SBA resource partners, target entrepreneurial training projects and counseling sessions tailored specifically to address the needs and concerns of the veteran entrepreneur community, including service-disabled veterans, women veterans, and veterans interested in procurement.

Joe Reagan joins the Colorado VBOC after 20+ years of experience leading change and teams across the defense, technology, and nonprofit sectors. After leaving active duty in the United States Army, Joe earned an MBA from the University of Virginia. His experience spans multiple industries ranging from healthcare to technology, national security and nonprofit work. Prior to joining the Colorado VBOC Joe was the President of NewSpace Global, he has also worked for a number of non-profit organizations supporting the military and veteran community including Easterseals, and Wreaths Across America.

Aaron is the Business Operations Manager for the Colorado Veterans Business Outreach Center, where he brings over 25 years of business experience to support the growth and success of small businesses. His leadership approach is grounded in service and relationship-building, fostering strategic, cross-sector partnerships through deep community engagement and a proven track record in organizational leadership.

Nathaniel Hamilton Thompson

Nathaniel served in the United States Army for seven years, specializing in communications. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and earned dual degrees in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Colorado, Denver. Driven by a commitment to supporting the military community, he joined the Colorado Veterans Business Outreach Center in August 2024. In his role, Nathaniel combines his military experience and financial expertise to help veterans, service members, and their families achieve their entrepreneurial and financial goals.

Keith Hendrix

Keith Hendrix joined the VBOC in August of 2025. Keith spent 20 years in the US. Army and retired in December 2019. During his time in the military he worked towards several degrees, the highest being a Master of Science in Management. After Keith retired from the military, he opened a restaurant, taught 5th grade, and was a Banking Center Manager. Keith enjoys sharing his experiences in these areas with is fellow veterans to help them avoid the same mistakes he made along the way. Keith is dedicated to ensuring his fellow veterans succeed in achieving their dreams in business.
